2023 Audition for the Next Ice Age Holiday Gala

The Next Ice Age (NIA) is holding auditions for one spot for a young skater (under 18) to perform with us at our Holiday Gala on December 29th and 30th at the Carousel Hotel in Ocean City, MD. 

Here is what to do:

NIA is an artistic skating company, so while jumping and spinning are permitted, the focus should be on the artistic value of skating. Please prepare a short piece of about 2 minutes. It could be about anything - an emotion, a story, a game, or just how you “see” the music. It is our hope some very young skaters apply and they (and anyone), of course, may receive help with this from a coach or friend. Please wear dark solid-colored clothes - preferably black. No costumes, please. Also, please do not include previous performance videos. The winner will be announced on Thanksgiving weekend. Only apply if you are able to perform on the performance dates.

There are two ways to audition for the 2023 NIA Holiday Gala.

1. In-person:

In-person auditions will be held at the Columbia Ice Rink on October 10th and 11th. Available times are listed below. For in-person auditions, you will be asked to demonstrate your skating skills as well as perform your short piece. If you don’t have a piece prepared, do the audition and submit the piece later online.

2. Virtual:

For virtual auditions, please link a videotape of your skating skills as well as the short piece. This could be as easy as someone videotaping your warm-up. Online videos will be accepted through November 20th.
