About the Event
The Next Ice Age announces it’s 2021 Fall Residency
On Friday, September 17th The Next Ice Age will present its Fall Residency performance at the Columbia Ice Rink in Columbia MD from 10:30 - 11:30am. Among the presentations are:
A Leaf in a Stream
“A Leaf in a Stream” is a ‘mile marker’ of our Road to 35 series leading up to our 35th Anniversary in 2023. It is a re staging of Tim Murphy’s choreography of a solo from 1992 and is set to the music of Aaron Copland’s Clarinet Concerto. Originally performed by director Nathan Birch, this solo will be performed twice by two different skaters: NIA favorites Wesley Campbell and Tess Terpos. There will also be some archival footage of Birch’s original to view.
Class Demonstration and Teacher Certification Ceremony
Nathan Birch will guide young regional skaters on the ice through some of the curricula of The Next Ice Edge - our own teaching technique of fine skating. This will culminate in the recognition of some professional skaters who, after much study, will be certified to teach these exercises all over the world.
We would love for you to join us! Keep in mind Covid 19 protocols are quite fluid. We will of course abide by any guidelines or regulations set by The State of MD, the Howard County Health Dept. and the Columbia Association especially in regard to how many people are allowed in the ice rink at one time, seating arrangements, etc. We will keep you informed as we approach our performance date. Thank you so much for your past, present and future support of The Next Ice Age!
